Bhubaneswar, April 1: The Congress-led central government’s policy on terrorism was “deeply flawed”, Bharatiya Janata Party leader L K Advani said her

ITANAGAR, April 1: Star campaigner and All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi will address a party rally at Pasighat in East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh tomorrow.

Party sources here today said the youth leader would be accompanied by Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Planning V Narayanswamy.
Around 25,000 party supporters and general public are expected to participate in the rally to be organized at Gandhi market ground, the sources said.

Other prominent leaders, including Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu and Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Nabam Tuki, would also address the rally.
Meanwhile, Tuki, along with AICC secretary and incharge of Arunachal Pradesh Sanjoy Bapna, left for Pasighat yesterday to oversee the arrangements being made in view of the visit of Rahul Gandhi, the sources added.

Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi also attended for a poll campaign in Mizoram for Congress Lok Sabha candidate C L Ruala. “I have been communicating with Rahul’s security agents regarding his rally in Mizoram. I have chosen the Assam Rifles ground for the venue. Unless the weather forbids, he will come here,” Ruala said at a press conference here today.

Gandhi had visited the state last year and addressed a massive rally at Aizawl on the eve of the state Assembly elections in November. Meanwhile, as the duration for filing of nomination papers ended on March 30, four people have decided to contest the elections to the state’s lone Lok Sabha seat.

The Opposition alliance of Mizo National Front and Mizoram People’s Conference, led by former chief ministers Zoramthanga and Brig (Rtd) T Sailo, has fielded former MP H Lallungmuana (on Independent ticket).

Besides, one Rualpawla of an unrecognised party Israel National Front (on Independent ticket) and Nationalist Congress Party president Lalawmpuia Chhangte have also filed their nominations.

The opposition alliance launched a statewide campaign for the Lok Sabha polls and by-election for South Tuipui constituency which will be held simultaneously with the LS polls on April 16.
The Lok Sabha polls in Mizoram will be broadly a two-cornered fight between Ruala and Dr Lallungmuana, who, according to political observers, have equal chances of winning.

“Even though the history of MP elections in Mizoram has hardly witnessed opposition candidate being elected, it is not a win-win situation for the ruling Congress this time considering the popularity of Dr Lallungmuana,” observed K Zabiaka, a political observer. His view is shared by many other political analysts.

Incidentally, Lallungmuana (65) who is a church leader and retired college lecturer had been elected to Parliament in the 1998 general elections against then ruling Congress candidate J Lalsangzuala.

Speaking to the mediapersons, Ruala said power production and exploration of the state’s natural resources would be his top priority if he got elected.

Ruala, who is nine years senior to his main rival also claimed that his age would be his advantage, in response to remarks that “he is too old to be an MP.”

“I have been in politics since I was 32. I have a lot of experiences during these 42 years. My experience will be my biggest advantage,” he said. On the contrary, Lallungmuana, except that he had been an MP for 13 months has no experience in politics.

Asked if he would be given ministerial berth, provided UPA comes back to power, Ruala said it depends on the central Congress leaders.“Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla has told the media that he would make efforts for me becoming a Union Minister,” he added. (Agencies)
