Repoll in 7 polling stations in UP

Lucknow, April 25: In view of complaints of rigging and other irregularities, re-polling will be held at seven polling stations in three districts of Uttar Pradesh Saturday, election officials said.

"Of this, five polling stations are in Gonda parliamentary constituency and one each in Basti and Sant Kabir Nagar districts respectively," Additional Chief Electoral Officer Amrit Abhijat told reporters here.

He said that re-poll will be held at five polling stations in Gonda after complaints of disturbances during the polling -- which was held yesterday -- were received.

Booths where re-polling will be held today are in Mankapur assembly constituency, where BJP candidate Ram Pratap Singh was injured yesterday during a clash between BSP workers and the saffron party activists.
An FIR had been lodged against BSP nominee Kirti Vardhan Singh in this connection.

Abhijat said that re-poll will also be held at one polling booth in Basti, where a polling officer mishandled the electronic voting machine and pressed erase button thus deleting the votes registered yesterday afternoon.

He said that re-poll will be held at a polling station in Marvatiya village in Sant Kabir Nagar district, where the process was disrupted recently after a fire broke out in the area.

Meanwhile, repolling is also scheduled to be held today in two polling booths in Garikapadu village, Vinukonda Assembly constituency of the Guntur district of Andhra as some miscreants destroyed EVMs yesterday, District Election Officer said yesterday.
